Warehouse document routing layout

When creating and maintaining label designs for usage in the WHS module, a limited number of product and batch data are available as content input for the label design.

To have the possibility to use more data content from Dyn365FO, when designing labels, additional batch and product specific information are needed.

This module will extend the data available when setting up WHS document routing layout. Data from the following areas are now available:

Batch information (all fields from the InventBatch table)

Batch attribute data (all available batch attributes, content and attribute values for the transaction)

Content and design of labels are typically done by use of 3rd party software e.g. the free ZebraDesigner.

Usage of document routing layout

Printing of labels is controlled by the document routing for WHS, where the different work order types are setup with a label layout and printers to be used for WHS labels.

The form for setting up the Document routing can be found in [Warehouse management / Setup / Document routing / Document routing], and the form for setting up the label layout can be found in [Warehouse management / Setup / Document routing / Document routing layouts].

For making the start of label design an easier task, you can download a free design tool for the ZPL label printer language from [www.zebra.com](http://www.zebra.com) or you can ask your current label printer supplier.

Use copy/paste to transfer design from your design tool into Dyn365FO.

To include Dyn365FO label data into the label design, you can choose the wanted data and use the "Insert" feature. This will insert the needed Dyn365FO data definition into the layout, below the existing data.

To enable a labels setup where information from the batches form as well as the batch attributes and –values are available, a reference to the extended data must be inserted into the label design. The reference information will not be printed to the label but will give the possibility to use Batch and Batch attribute data in the label design.

It is recommended to have the reference in the beginning of the design, like in the below example.

Batch information

All information from the Batch table are available for the label design. To include Batch information, select the wanted type of data and activate [Insert at end of text]. This will insert the Dyn365FO reference into the design and the reference can now be moved to the wanted position in the label design.

NOTE: It is mandatory to include "Use label batch data" in the label design, if batch data are wanted for the label.

Batch attribute values

Batch attributes are user created data, and must be created in the inventory module, before the wanted attributes are available. Data for Batch attributes is only available if setup for the item and initiated for the Batch in question.

View Batch data

With the Extensions functionality the menu item 'View batch data' becomes available in the forms: 'License plate labels' and 'Warehouse label viewer':

Changes to 'Purchase registration' parameter in Item model group

In the item model group, there is a check box field 'Purchase registration' that, if ticked YES, will result in the form/screen 'Vendor batch details' being displayed during the purchase registration process, enabling you to add/amend batch information.

Figure 8: Item model group-vendor registration parameter If this field is NOT ticked, standard behavior is to initialize a blank record and subsequently 'clearing' all values from the batch information fields, also if you have entered these before receiving products against the item/batch combination.

Figure 9: Batches - Vendor batch data

This however poses a problem for many customers within the Process Industry, where it rarely is a warehouse worker who would enter and/or verify vendor batch information, which means that this process is handled by a quality worker after the receipt, and you want to prevent the warehouse worker from being forced to go through this screen during the purchase registration, you would therefore NOT tick the 'Purchase registration'.

But, if your vendor provides batch information prior to receipt, you will enter this vendor batch information on the batch number and then have the quality worker control and verify the accuracy of the provided information after the receipt. To prevent the entered data from being deleted a modification is introduced, so that data entered is stored, even if the 'Purchase registration' parameter is not used. This also means that these data can be part of a product label created and printed during the receipt process.
